The Selene Vedema, a celebration of the Santorinian vineyard and its people, has marked its place as a highlight in the world of wine and culture. Hosted each year in September in the grounds of Selene Restaurant welcoming some of the worlds leading wine and food critics.
A beautiful story of food, love and passion that began exactly 37 years ago, when in 1985 Giorgos & Evelyn Hatzigiannakis decided to forever change the gastronomic destiny of Santorini by visioning a restaurant that would deliver the very “soul” of the island on their guests’ plates, based on the unique local ingredients and the long-lost gastronomic traditions of this feral land. The restaurant is living through its best phase yet in the premises of what used to be an 18th century Catholic Monastery within the Katikies Garden Hotel. In 2021 Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini undertook the responsibility to carry on and evolve the Selene legacy, which entered a new era. At about the same time Yiannis Karakasis MW (Master of Wine), one of the approximately 400 Masters of Wine in the world, took charge of the restaurant’s wine section, placing emphasis of course on the Santorinian vineyard.
Vedema is more than just a wine celebration; it is a cultural symphony. Among its most talked-about features are the one of a kind wine masterclasses designed and offered by Yiannis Karakasis MW delved deep into the world of wine, gaining insights and knowledge that only these experts could provide. Two thematic dinners that brought the best out of some of the most iconic restaurants of Greece under the guidance of Ettore Botrini. curated by Zoe Hatzigiannakis, for which 10 of the most influential painters showcased there work inspired by the Aegean Sea.
